Art Direction and Concept Art
I was hired to be art director for a VR game by an indie studio in 2017. The pitch was fairly straightforward – Your tribe has traveled to a corrupted world, and your job is to protect and guide them as they restore the temples scattered across the surface. In your god form, you must use strategy to determine the best course for your tribe. When they are in peril, you must manifest among them to quickly dispatch the threat.
I developed concept art for four gods – Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water – corrupted and healed landscapes, corrupted and healed tribesmen, production art examples for the modeling team, as well as visuals for what the game may look like from a first person perspective. The disc shape of the world was inspired by Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. As a team we pitched this idea to funders at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in 2017.
